Open up free swim space on big days

Hi!

I was wondering if the Board would consider reducing the number of lanes to 1 or 2 on days when the pool is particularly crowded (today, the last day of school, it’s extremely crowded and plus there are lessons). This also happens on Memorial Day and I’m sure other big summer weekends. The pool gets very crowded for just a couple hours, while the lanes are sparse. Would the Board consider reducing the number of lap lanes during these busy times? Thank you!!!

Two thoughts

1. Because it annoys me that people keep asking dumb hours questions that are literally on the website. Put a banner/announcement/sticky at the top of the FB page directly to the Pool Calendar so that people can see hours, special events, etc. I mean, some people will still ask and want others to do the work for them, but it may cut down on lazy posts.

2. I know I mentioned this to a few of you, but to put it here. Get a red STOP sign decal to place on each of the Bulkhead orange signs. Little kids can't read and adults ignore it. STOP signs are universally understood and might cut down on issues.

Open early on 6/16?

Hi there. The last day for Middle School in Arlington is Thursday, June 16 and it is an early release day. My kids are DYING to go to the pool with their friends on that day. Is there any way to open the pool at 1pm instead of 3pm?

Middle school early release - 1pm opening?

Thank you, thank you for opening the pool early on the two elementary early release days on 6/15 & 6/17. Any chance it can open at 1pm on 6/16? It is the last day of school for our middle schoolers and they get out early that day. Thanks for your consideration and thanks for such a rejuvenated and responsive board. The atmosphere at the pool is great!

Alternating free swim and adult brunch

I was thinking it could be really nice for families who like to go to the pool on weekend mornings to be able to go on Sunday mornings. With kids who still nap and working parents( so the weekends are the only time for the pool) not being able to go until 11 am doesn’t work. I totally understand that it’s nice for adults to have time at the pool without children but from what I witnessed once and have heard, adult brunch isn’t used very much. Would the pool consider alternating weeks of Sunday adult brunch and sundays open to all? Thanks!

Master Swim

It would be awesome to have a master swim program - either actively coached at a set time or even just the “curriculum” or drills of the day written up on boards for early bird swimming with options for different fitness levels.

Parking lot paving

It’s probably an off season project but any plans to pave the parking lot and re draw parking lines so people can see spots? 2 flat tires later (that could have come from many many places :)) it would be a great project for the list.

APS Early Release Days

No lap lanes weekend afternoons

Lap lanes should be closed from 12-5 on weekends. Folks have all week to swim laps, but kids and working parents only have limited time at the pool. Of course the pool on Memorial Day was crowded, but having 100 people cram into half the big pool while three lap lanes were being used by a total of 4 people was, quite frankly, embarrassing. And sure, the deepest lap lane was eventually eliminated to allow for more folks in the deep end, but that did nothing to expand the half of the pool where people could stand (should have eliminated the shallow lap lane), and the lap lanes were still only being used by 2-3 people. If we want to maximize family fun at the pool, which I think we all do, let's be more family friendly - close the lap lanes during the busiest pool hours so families and friends can have more of the pool to actually use. There are already dedicated lap lane swim times - how about some dedicated non-lap swim times?

Holiday Guests

I think we should no longer allow guests on holidays - Memorial, July 4th and Labor Day. My understanding is this is a rule at neighboring clubs. There were way too many people there today.

Hooks in family bathroom

Hello. Please put 2-3 hooks in the family bathroom so that people can hang up towels, dry clothes, wet clothes while changing themselves and their children. It's really hard to hold everything without dropping it on the floor while changing yourself or helping a child change. Many thanks, Alice

Lap lanes

I know there is an active minority of folks that use the lap lanes, but on weekends and other particularly busy days one lane should be removed. The “open”’part of the pool is relatively small and if kids are using the basketball hoop it is even smaller. Opening up some space would be great!

Updated signage, etc

The pool is great so far this year! Our family is so excited to be back. A few ideas:

Billing to family account for the Quack Shack - it would be extremely convenient (maybe too convenient?) if we didn't need cash for the snack bar or could pay in advance online like the guest passes.
Although, it is helpful for my kids to know exactly how much they can spend on a certain day depending on how much cash we bring. Regardless, the snack bar is a major highlight!

Updated signage - I have noticed that some new families don't know all the rules and the signs are confusing become some signs are accurate (lifeguards only on the bulkhead) and some aren't (no food and drink on the pool deck). It would also be helpful to send out a quick FAQ of the rules and highlights - it took me years to know where the lost and found was and that the foosball and ping pong tables were open to everyone (we thought that area was for staff only). It would be great if the game room tables were consistently stocked with paddles, balls, etc.

Little library or place where members can swap books and magazines in the off chance you get an opportunity to sit and read.

Babysitting directory/general bulletin board - we would love to know which teenage members are available for babysitting, dog walking, grass cutting, etc.

We would love to see the adult only crab night back, ice cream socials, kids' nights AND the family campout.

Small workout room would be a huge plus!

It would be nice to have a few more umbrellas in between some of the lounge chairs along the back fence of the deck. If you want to be in a lounge chair there are very few that are shaded and on the weekends it's impossible to get a spot in the shade.

Early bird Dive well for dive team

Hello! I noticed that swim team members are welcome for lap swimming during early bird lap hours. However, dive team members do not have the ability to practice in the dive well those same hours. I wonder if this limits/hinders the ability (especially if our more experienced divers) to get enough practice, especially since we only have one board. (A second board would also be great!) At the very least, it feels inequitable for the same opportunity to access the pool for extra practice. Thanks for listening!

Playground equipment for younger kids

Interested in any improvements that make the pool more entertaining for the younger set, including a splash/fountain area and perhaps good quality playground equipment, such as Cedarworks playset.
